Uveitis – patient information to assist informed consent

This RANZCO patient education pamphlet provides information on uveitis. The topics discussed include:
-   Normal anatomy of the eye and uvea
-   Types of uveitis, including: iritis, intermediate uveitis, posterior uveitis and panuveitis
-   Signs and symptoms of uveitis

This leaflet can be a useful tool for patients as the different treatments for uveitis are discussed in detail. These include:
-   Corticosteroids (in the form of eye drops, injections, tablets or intravenous)
-   Immunosuppressant medication
-   Mydriatic eye drops with corticosteroids

The prognosis of uveitis and the risk of developing glaucoma or cataract is also discussed. The RANZCO patient education pamphlets titled “Cataract Surgery” and “Surgical Treatment of Glaucoma” are also available and provide more information.
