Surgical Treatment of a Pterygium – patient information to assist informed consent
This RANZCO patient education pamphlet provides information on the surgical removal of a pterygium. The surgical procedure is described for patients needing the removal of a pterygium that is causing problems such as threatening normal vision, or causing an astigmatism. Other topics discussed include: anatomy of the eye, anaesthesia and preparation for surgery.
This leaflet can be a useful tool for patients as the benefits, risks and limitations of surgery are discussed. The possible complications of surgery are listed on page 4 to assist the informed-consent process.
