Menopause – patient information to assist informed consent
This patient education pamphlet provides treatment information on menopause. The topics discussed include: the signs and symptoms of menopause, necessary examinations and tests, premature menopause and osteoporosis.
This leaflet can be a useful tool for patients considering menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) to treat symptoms. The MHT options discussed are: combined MHT (oestrogen and progesterone), oestrogen-only MHT, vaginal oestrogen, and oestrogen with an SERM drug.
Helpful information is provided on lifestyle factors that can improve symptoms, such as diet, exercise and general wellbeing. Birth control during menopause is also discussed, including options such as the oral contraceptive pill, an IUD and tubal occlusion (or vasectomy for men).
Menopause is described in plain English to assist the patients’ understanding of health information and to help patients make informed decisions. The Obstetrics and Gynaecology patient information leaflets are printed in five-colour on high-quality A4 sheets.
