Hysteroscopy – patient information to assist informed consent
This patient education pamphlet provides treatment information on the hysteroscopy procedure. The topics discussed include: diagnostic hysteroscopy and operative hysteroscopy, what to expect before surgery, recovery after hysteroscopy and the possible complications of surgery.
The diagnostic hysteroscopy procedure is described for patients needing investigation of problems such as abnormal uterine bleeding, painful or irregular periods, pelvic pain, infertility and recurrent miscarriages.
This leaflet can be a useful tool for patients considering operative hysteroscopy for the treatment of uterine problems such as uterine fibroids, uterine polyps and uterine adhesions. Techniques such as endometrial ablation and retrieval of a displaced IUD are also described.
