Treatment of Dysplasia of the Cervix – patient information to assist informed consent
This patient education pamphlet provides treatment information on cervical dysplasia and the available treatments. The topics discussed include: genital HPV in relation to cervical cancer, the cervical screening test (CST), cervical cell abnormalities and colposcopy. Recovery after surgery and the possible complications of surgical treatment are also discussed.
This leaflet can be a useful tool for patients where colposcopy and biopsy have indicated high-grade cellular abnormalities. The surgical treatments of cervical dysplasia described are: wire loop excision (also known as LEEP or LLETZ), laser treatment and cone biopsy.
The treatment of cervical dysplasia is described in plain English to assist the patients’ understanding of health information and to help patients make informed decisions. The Obstetrics and Gynaecology patient information leaflets are printed in five-colour on high-quality A4 sheets.
