Dilatation and Curettage – patient information to assist informed consent
This patient education pamphlet provides treatment information on the dilatation and curettage procedure (also known as “D&C”). The topics discussed included: what to expect before surgery, the D&C procedure, recovery after surgery and the possible complications of D&C.
D&C is discussed as a diagnostic procedure for gynaecological problems such as abnormal or irregular menstrual bleeding, precancerous growths (such as endometrial polyps or endometrial hyperplasia) and infertility.
This leaflet can be a useful tool for patients considering D&C as a treatment option for problems such as the removal of endometrial polyps and the removal of an intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD).
The D&C procedure is described in plain English to assist the patients’ understanding of health information and to help patients make informed decisions. The Obstetrics and Gynaecology patient information leaflets are printed in five-colour on high-quality A4 sheets.
