Management of Cracked Teeth – patient information to assist informed consent
Formerly titled "Cracked Tooth Syndrome"

This ADA patient education pamphlet provides dental information on the management of cracked teeth. The topics discussed include:

  • Symptoms and signs of a cracked tooth, such as sharp tooth pain and temperature sensitivity
  • Causes of cracked tooth syndrome, such as bruxism and trauma
  • Diagnosis of cracked tooth syndrome, such as bite tests, radiographic exams and staining.

The dental procedures performed on a cracked tooth are described for patients that may need treatment of a simple crack or complex crack. The treatments described include placing a large filling or crown on the tooth, or performing a root canal. The ADA patient education pamphlets “Crowns and Bridges” and “Root Canal Treatment” can provide more information.

Mi-tec publishes 31 Australian Dental Association patient information brochures. The dental information is written in plain English to assist the patients’ understanding of health information and to help patients make informed decisions. The ADA patient information brochures are printed in five-colour on high-quality A4 sheets.
