Clinical Gated Cardiac SPECT
This book comprises 12 Chapters by leading physicians and scientists in the field. It begins with an overview of the role of nuclear cardiology in clinical practice, followed by a description of the anatomic and physiologic principles germane to the assessment of ventricular function. Issues related to acquisition, processing and quantitation of gated SPECT are then addressed. Intepretation and reporting of both perfusion and finction from gated SPECT follow. The discussion then proceeds to artifacts that may be solved by gated SPECT as well as those that may be associated with its perfomrance. The clinical applications of gated SPECT in chronic and acute CAD as well as in the assessment of myocardial viability are examined next. Cost efffectiveness is addressed in a Chapter devoted to this issue. The less commonapplication of blood pool SPECT is descibed, and finally gated SPECT is compared with the competing modalities of echcardiography, MRI and CT.
